How to Price Your Travel Map
Pricing is the question every new creator on Hotspot asks first. And it's the right question — get it wrong and you either leave money on the table or scare people off.
Here's what we've learned from watching hundreds of maps launch on the platform.
The sweet spot for most maps is between €3 and €10. Under €3 feels like it's not worth the transaction friction. Over €10 requires serious trust or a very niche audience. The average successful map on Hotspot is priced at €4.99.
Think about it from the buyer's perspective. They're about to visit a city. A guidebook costs €15-25. A food tour costs €50-100. Your curated map with 15-20 insider spots, personal notes, and exact locations? €5 is an absolute no-brainer.
Here are some pricing guidelines based on what we're seeing work:
City overview maps (10-15 general spots): €2.99 - €4.99. These work well for creators with large audiences. Lower price, higher volume.
Niche maps (best coffee, secret bars, date night spots): €4.99 - €7.99. Higher value because they solve a specific problem. Buyers know exactly what they're getting.
Comprehensive city guides (25+ spots with detailed notes): €7.99 - €12.99. These are basically digital guidebooks. Price them accordingly.
One more thing: don't be afraid to raise your price. Most creators undercharge. If your map has 20+ spots with genuine insider knowledge, €4.99 is probably too low. Test €6.99 or €7.99 — you might be surprised.
Remember: you're not competing with free blog posts. You're competing with the alternative, which is spending hours googling and hoping for the best. Your curated knowledge is worth real money. Price it like it is.
